64 kilometers from Shillong is the administrative headquarters of Jaintia Hills as well as the commercial centre. By Air - Nearest Major airport is Guwahati at a distance of nearly 170 kilometers, direct flights available from Kolkata, Delhi, Bagdogra and Bangkok. The nearest airport is at Umroi, nearly 35 kilometers from Shillong and nearly 100 kilometers from Jowai, which connects this lovely city by air with the rest of the country. There is a helicopter service from Guwahati Airport to Shillong and Shillong to Tura.

By Rail - There are no rail lines in Meghalaya. The nearest major railhead is at Guwahati, which is at a distance of nearly 170 kilometers from Jowai. Guwahati is well connected with the rest of the country by broad gauge rail, road and airways.
