Jowai
64 kilometers from Shillong is the administrative headquarters of Jaintia Hills as well as the commercial centre. It is situated along side the Myntdu River which encircles two thirds of this ever expanding township. It is 1 ½ hour drive away from Shillong, along the Shillong - Silchar national highway. A picturesque town circled by the majestic Myntdu river. Syntu Ksiar is an area worth seeing; it is a part of the Myntdu River where the freedom struggle headed by Kiang Nongbah started at the Madan Madiah. One can see the monument of Kiang Nan bah who was a freedom fighter. The Thadlaskein lake is a popular tourist spot.
It is the home of the Pnar Tribes one of the friendliest tribes in the whole of the northeastern parts of india and is situated at an altitude of 1380 m above sea level.

By Air - Nearest Major airport is Guwahati at a distance of nearly 170 kilometers, direct flights available from Kolkata, Delhi, Bagdogra and Bangkok. The nearest airport is at Umroi, nearly 35 kilometers from Shillong and nearly 100 kilometers from Jowai, which connects this lovely city by air with the rest of the country. There is a helicopter service from Guwahati Airport to Shillong and Shillong to Tura.
By Rail - There are no rail lines in Meghalaya. The nearest major railhead is at Guwahati, which is at a distance of nearly 170 kilometers from Jowai. Guwahati is well connected with the rest of the country by broad gauge rail, road and airways.
By Road - It is 1 ½ hour drive away from Shillong, along the Shillong - Silchar national highway. Approximately 170 kilometers from Guwahati. The roads are good as there is rush of tourist. Private vehicles are available. Laskein 35 kilometers, Thadlaskein 10 kilometers,
